The Who Knew WI Edition

Late breaking news -

Don't run
Don't really track your food
Drink your waters - for the most part, but not all of them.

Lose 1.2lbs in a week.

In all seriousness don't use this approach to weight loss. It is not good for your body, nor is it all that great for the mind. This damn body of mine is just about to drive me insane. Don't do what I should do and lose weight. Do what I should do and maintain. Is it any wonder people suffer from eating/working out disorders. Seriously!!!!

The good thing - lowest weight in about 1 year. That has me very stoked!

I've been really bad about hitting the treadmill this week. I'm still playing catch up with my life/sleep/house and overall state of mind. The clock change and then going from days to 3 midnights (2 doubles) and then back to evenings and 2 more midnights, back to days. My time I am able to commit to myself and the street or treadmill are severely compromised.

I just got off the treadmill from an intense 20 minute calorie burn. It wasn't a long run, but it was enough to remind my legs and lungs what is expected of them. I love the feel of sweat on my elbows at 4 minutes in. In a word - sweet!!!!!!!!

I'm off to the showers and then to get ready for work!

1.2lbs!!!! Yaaaaaaaa

WI Update and a New Obsession

I weighed in this morning with a 1lb loss. How the heck that happened I have no idea. I ended the week 53 points in the hole. I dieted on KFC and DQ ice cream cake in honour of Queenie's birthday over the past week. I was not expecting this loss, not one bit, but I will take it and be happy with the overall loss of 7lbs total since I've recommited to being accountable to my body.

I've been playing around with the idea of eating clean. I really want to, but I know I lack the commitment and the time to make it really work for me. As much as I am not embracing the clean eating entirely I'm working towards eating cleaner if not more often than not.

I spend way too much time assembling my newest food addiction so I decided to finally get smart and pre-made 5 containers. Without further adieu, my newest addiction.... overnight oats.

1/2 cup oats, 1/2 cup almond butter, 2 tbsp vanilla protein powder, half a mashed thawed banana. Yummy!

And then, a dozen hard boiled eggs that will be in the fridge for a quick pre-made snack.

I was planning on running today. I missed yesterday's run because I was working two 8 hour shifts with not enough time in between. Today's run did not happen because I'm dragging ass in a bad way. I'm sick of being sick. I've been doping up on sinus pain meds and could do without the aches in my arms and shoulders. I hope to get a good night sleep, once I finally get home at 2am. I'm loving the run now. I would have been somewhere near to 80K for the year if I could have run today. No point stressing about it now. It didn't happen. Get over it. Tomorrow is a long run 72 minutes. I hit 7.7K last week at 60 minutes so, I'm really excited to see what tomorrow's run brings.

Ta ta for now.

Lead Legs and Life

Life was pretty quiet around here today.

Cute Boy and I lounged in bed until 11am this morning. After nights of 5 hours sleep more often than not this past week and 5am wake up calls, this was a small slice of heaven.

I've been hitting the treadmill this week. Today's run was crap, but the rest of the week I felt incredible. I think my motivation may have found it's way home. WOOHOO for me. I also lifted some weights today. The first time in so long, I don't actually remember the previous session. The big work out news is that this week I've been on the treadmill 5 of 7 days for a total run distance of 15K. I'm really happy with that!

I ran today and didn't have much in the tank. Lead legs would be the best description. I'll take the 2K I did and be happy with the effort. It's not about moving mountains, but one small stone at a time. How did I get so 'okay' with just making an effort to better myself. I used to push to the point of exhaustion, which isn't a bad thing, but sometimes to the point of obsession. I'm so much more at peace with just doing what I can, when I can.

There is other news developing in my house that will really change how life is around here. I'm not 100% if it will or will not happen at this point, but keeping my mind open to :ll possibilities. I hope and pray for the best outcome and if that is to be, the change will be happening and happening in the very near future. When things are concrete one way or another I'll update. Until an update, please send positive thoughts. Life could get very interesting!

Happy healthy days to each of you.

Saturday Sweetness

I've finished my run. I felt and feel incredible. If I feel so incredible, someone please tell me why I delay the work out and the running like I do. I'll never figure it out.

I did intervals for 40 minutes. 4.89KM later, so close to 5K, I'm done for the day. I did a mini shoulder, bicep work out as well. One work out at a time. I will build on this tomorrow with something physical. Maybe a bike ride, maybe a walk on the treadmill, or better yet outside with the dog. Shhhhh, don't read that part too loud because if she hears the word "walk" she goes crazy. Cute, but crazy.

Here was my post work out snack. One of my all time favorite combos right now. Can't get enough of it.

1/2 cup Liberte Yogurt
splash vanilla
1/2 sweetener packet
chopped strawberries
1/2 all bran bar

After assembly, it looks like this:

I love the crunch of the granola bar on top and the fact that it's only a 4 point snack. I get in a dairy serving as well as a portion of fruit. Yummy goodness!

I'm outta here for now. I'm off to attempt to knock things off my to-do list.

Again, have a great day!

My My My Month of May

I just finished a 3.4K run on the treadmill. Oh how I love my treadmill! I know I keep going on and on about it. It feels like when you're the honeymoon phase of a new relationship. All moon-y eyes and sweet thoughts. It won't always be like this I'm sure.

I hit the wall today! That's okay with me though. Not every day is going to be amazing and the best day ever on my quest to a healthier me. I'm just happy right now to be using the treadmill to further my physical fitness, especially in light of my tender ankle.

The number cruncher in my has a couple things to share.

Work out days - 5/31
Distance run - 17.7K

By normal standards they are not good numbers. Again, I'm okay with that. May was the most successful month since January. You know how January is with resolutions and new beginnings. May is my new beginning month.

On that note, I'm off to make myself something for breakfast. I've been up for 2 hours and have yet to eat. Very unlike me, but I wanted to get my work out in first and now, other than baseball tonight, I'm done for the day. I feel very accomplished.

Workout Room Peek

Pretty standard as universals go, but to me it looks like a million bucks. I'm so stoked to get going on this new adventure of mine.

Cute Boy had mentioned trying to find the time to set this up in the new house. I had no idea he was going to be doing it this week. I get an e-mail at work today that it was done and I just about screamed. I know for certain I clapped my hands. I know. I'm a loser! It's what you love about me, right?

I have Oxygen magazines now to pour over looking for work out programs and individual exercises. That is going to be fun. I'm going to attempt to follow my success pattern from before which was a 10 min easy run on the treadmill to warm up my muscles and the heart rate up a wee bit. Weight train followed by a 30-45 minute interval run to finish off the work out.

I'm off to work out in my very own house in my own basement and I'm over the moon. I'll be just over there <---- see me. I'm working out..... right there <----

Look What Moved In

Check out this bad boy! Cute Boy and I just bought this on the weekend. I'm soooo excited. The area you see around the treadmill is in the works, down the road, to becoming a home work out gym. Time is at a premium right now with all things Cute Boy has on the go, so until he has time this is what it looks like. I worry not, the time will come that we are rocking out the home gym.

Cute Boy and a couple friends picked it up on Sunday afternoon. I was told if we ever sell the house the treadmill comes with. It is incredibly heavy. I didn't help with the moving of my new love, so I can't say either way how heavy it is or not. Just kidding. I know it's heavy since I moved it about 6 feet and I had to kitty cat step it in place to where it sits now. I think the boys were being wimps though since there was 3 of them and just little ol' me. MWAH!

I got home from work yesterday and within minutes I was in my work out clothes and pushing this beast to the closest outlet to get my first mini run underway. I logged a 3K run in 25 minutes. I didn't push any pace, just got the feel of the machine, which is incredible by the way. It felt incredible and in turn I felt even better.

I know I'm more of a treadmill runner than I street runner, so to have access 24/7 to this is like a dream come true for me. I can now get to the business of shedding my winter coat just in time for another winter. LOL.

I hope ya'll don't get bored with my walking/running distance updates because there is going to be a lot of them.

Wolfe Island Classic 10KM

The commitment shot! There is something so incredibly invigorating when presented with your race kit. I'm like a little kid at Christmas waiting to see my number. I love the feeling. Our race kits were comprised of our bibs, hair elastics, a granola breakfast bar, a percentage off coupon for pictures taken throughout the race. Very cool!

Here's one of the watering stations set up along the running route. What is important to note here, is this is done by the residents of the island, not by the race coordinators.

It was touching to see the support offered by the residents of the island. Families would be set up on the side of the road offering water cups, clapping, cheering and words of encouragement. It brought a tear to my eye a couple times to see the support and to feel the appreciation. I know I'm a loser!

This would be my ever-wonderful K-Pow about the 8K mark, I think it was. Again, I can't tell you enough what she means to me! It is way too difficult to put it to words. Through my aches, pains and overall fear of failure, you were right there! Every step of the way you cheered me on, pushed when I needed it even though I sure as hell didn't want it! Thank you, my dear friend! This is OUR thing! :)

My 8K moment - WOOHOO Over half way. That was important to me!

Here is my moment of utter accomplishment and relief. I DID IT!!!! Since K-Pow finished ahead of me, she was able to get a shot of my moment! Thank you, sweetie. So fitting, the song playing on my mp3 player at the moment of crossing - Fighter. I love it! It was a mental fight for me at various points throughout this run and leading up to it. I was so worried about my foot and then my left hip (sciatic pre-cursor), but there was no way I was going to let this opportunity pass me by! I'm so glad I pushed through the mental torture I'm so good at and got it done. I don't yet know my official time, but I do know it is my personal best based on K-Pow's finish time that was about 1 minute ahead of mine! My finish time was 1:05:37 Pace - 6:34

My brush with greatness! Oh, how I love Don Cherry. I accosted the poor man as he was coming out of church. I felt bad for that, but Don being Don, he just smiled and graciously gave of his time to let K-Pow and I get a couple of pics with him.

This the likes of what surrounded us. The beauty of the island is second to none.

I must say to the good folks of Wolfe Island - Thank you! You're too kind and I'm blessed to have shared in the beauty of your home for just a short while! From the bottom of my heart, you touched me. I know I can be an emotional sap at times, and today is no different, but it really made a world of difference for me that you gave of your morning to support a bunch of runners that clog up your roadways and in turn throw our water cups on your grass..... I felt terrible about that! Thank you!
